Chapter One: Why Deal With Data?

Data can help you do your job as a school board member more effectively. Using data allows you to make well-informed decisions based on fact not guesswork. Knowing what data to use begins with setting and then understanding your district's vision, mission and End Results for Student Achievement (Goals). Without these cornerstones, it's hard for board members to know where the district is headed or how they will get there. Your board's vision, mission and End Results help staff determine what data to collect and analyze for you.
